Matt Carroll’s December Woodland Walk

It was a cold but dry day to enjoy the woodland with Matt Carroll. He is a knowledgeable and entertaining guide, we all learnt something new, be it coppicing methods, the advantages of different types of timber according to your purpose, green woodworking, woodland ecology and bird song. Matt demonstrated fire lighting using King Alfred’s cakes as tinder, lit from a spark, and how to make a wooden spoon and spatula with appropriate tools. A busy, enjoyable, informative morning. Grateful thanks to Matt!
