Bracken Bashing at Kate’s Orchard

Life is bursting forth and May is galloping by! Hence it is time to trample the bracken in Kate’s Orchard to control it and allow the rich variety of flora to thrive. It’s a relatively short period of time in which this task should be done, hence we have five sessions lined up – please come along for any amount of time you are available. We are doing morning or evening sessions to avoid the main heat of the day, and the Orchard is lovely at these times.

Monday 5th June, 9.30 – 11.00 a.m. Leader Anna Williams

Wednesday 7th June. 6.00 – 7.30 p.m. Leader Sheila Brooks

Friday 9th June,  9.30 – 11.00 a.m. Leader Anna Williams

Please wear stout shoes, long trousers and sleeves, and gardening gloves. Be aware the fibres of bracken can cut, similar to paper. Only work as much as you are comfortable doing. Take breaks and leave early if you need too. Any help is welcome. Kids welcome – they love it! Sun hat and cream advisable, along with water or other refreshment.

Nearest car park is Ynys Newydd, walk via the play area, through the woods; cross the bridge to the Old Railway.

Nearest bus route is to Blackpill and walk up the Old Railway. From the fishing lake, the Orchard Entrance is a few metres north, on the right hand side. Meet at the fishing lake a few minutes before the start time, or make your way directly to the Orchard if you know the way.
